Spring is officially here! It’s a time to cast off the old and grungy. The same goes for your home. Here are ten tips on bringing some new life and comfort to your place:
1. Spring Clean the Fabrics
This includes shampooing rugs, cleaning area rugs, dry cleaning drapes and cleaning the furniture. Florida springs bring lots of pollen. No need to add dust to the growing number of allergens in your home.
2. Have Your Duct Work Cleaned
Speaking of allergens, it’s time to have your duct work cleaned. Clean air ducts cut down on allergens in the air and help your A/C run more efficiently. Let’s face it. If it’s spring in Florida, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll need that A/C unit.
3. Service Your AC
Because of the near year-round need for your air conditioner, you want to ensure your system is running well before the temps heat up. Now is the perfect time to get your unit serviced. You don’t want to have to call 24-hour emergency A/C repair in the middle of the summer, but if you do we’ll be there then too.
4. Change Your Air Filter
Florida spring’s are pollen-filled, just check out the yellow on all the cars this time of year. During the spring you’ll want to check your air filters every 3-4 weeks. If they’re clogged or dirty, change them.
For convenience, add the filter size to your notepad app in your phone or take a picture of it. That way when you’re out and about and see a good deal on them, you don’t have to guess at the size.
5. Pressure Wash Your Outdoor
From furniture to fences, patios to decks, Florida winters can bring a covering of green to your outdoor accessories. Give them a blast of the pressure washer and make them look new again.
6. Adjust Your Ceiling Fan
If you changed the direction of your ceiling fan for cooler weather, it’s time to turn it back. While you’re up there, give the blades a quick dust off. It’s amazing what collects there.
7. Inspect the Roof
We’re about to head into Florida’s rainy season. Take a look at your shingles and the condition of your roof. Don’t wait until one of our famous afternoon downpours to find out you’re not protected.
8. Clear Away the Blockages
Go outside and take a look at your A/C unit. Make sure there aren’t any weeds, plants, or other things growing around or blocking your unit. It needs good ventilation. The same goes for your inside. Look around all of your vents. Make sure you haven’t moved any furniture in front of them that will restrict airflow. Restricted airflow can make your system work harder and that means you’ll be needing A/C repair and maintenance sooner.
9. Paint Now
If you’ve been putting off a painting job do it now. Soon it will be too warm and humid. If you don’t do it now, you’ll be putting it off (again) until late fall.
10. Clear Away Bushes
Plants grow quickly in Florida and they provide some nice shade that insects love, especially termites. Make sure your landscaping around your home is at least 2-3 feet from its foundation. Don’t make those big eaters any more comfy than they already are in this state. Also springtime is swarm time so keep an eye out for wings and other signs of a termite infestation. Those little things can eat a lot in one day so finding them fast is important and can save you money in the long run.
